OXFORD City’s winning run came to an end in a 1-1 draw at Hungerford Town – but the point keeps them inside the Vanarama National League South play-off places.

Kyran Wiltshire’s early goal was cancelled out by Darren Foxley in a Boxing Day fixture which saw both sides reduced to ten men.

A first-half scuffle between Wiltshire and Marvel Ekpiteta resulted in red cards for both players, as City’s five-match winning run came to an end.

Mark Jones’s side started well and took the lead on 11 minutes when Joe Oastler’s drilled free-kick found Wiltshire, who picked out the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

But 15 minutes later, both sides were reduced to ten men after Wiltshire and Ekpiteta clashed.

City went close to doubling their lead just before the break, but Oastler’s effort went just wide.

Sam Nombe fired off target for the visitors at the start of the second half.

But Hungerford equalised on 61 minutes when Foxley whipped a free-kick into the net.

City had a golden chance to retake the lead with 20 minutes to go, however Craig Fasanmade blasted Nombe’s cutback straight at goalkeeper Jake Weaver.

Visiting stopper Craig King then had to be on his guard to keeper out a Richie Whittingham effort.

And Hungerford could have won it in stoppage time, but Alfy Whittingham fired over from inside the area as both teams were forced to settle for a point.

City are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Wealdstone.
