SUMMER signing George Redknap was the hero for Oxford City as his injury-time strike salvaged a point for Justin Merritt's side in Saturday's Division 1 South & West clash.

Trailing 3-2 it looked as though City would go home empty-handed, but Redknap did well to control a long ball before picking his spot and firing home to secure a share of the spoils.

Play was scrappy in the early stages, but gradually City gained the initiative and started to create chances with some attractive play.

However, they were let down by some poor finishing.

James Clarke went close for the home side, but three minutes before the break, City went ahead when James Faulkner scored at the second attempt after the keeper blocked his initial shot.

However, five minutes into the second half, Taunton levelled when City failed to clear a corner.

On the hour, City restored their lead when Jermaine McSporran flicked on a free-kick from Ikechi Anya, who was making his City debut after signing on Friday, which was touched in by Andy Gunn.

City looked to be heading for a win, but Charlie Welch levelled via the inside of a post.

And the nerves were jangling in the City defence when Tom Collett gave Taunton the lead for the first time.

With time running out, City grabbed a point when Redknap produced his moment of magic.
