Oxford City have snapped up talented winger Ikechi Anya from Wycombe Wanderers.

The youngest player ever to turn out for the League 2 side when he made his first-team debut aged 16 years and 279 days against Scunthorpe in October 2004, Anya was out of contract at Adams Park.

The Glasgow-born 19-year-old, who attracted the interest of a number of clubs including Oxford United and League 2 outfit Northampton after being released by Wycombe, goes into today's squad for their British Gas Business Southern League Division 1 South & West trip to Taunton Town.

City boss Justin Merritt was delighted by the capture of Anya (pictured), who was released in 2003 by the U's where he attended the school of excellence.

"He will play some part in today's game, definitely," said Merritt.

"He has been a professional at Wycombe for the last two seasons.

"Although he's only 19 he played a lot of games in the first team when Tony Adams was the boss.

"He played in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup last season.

"He's got a good pedigree. But last season he got injured and the manager (Paul Lambert) tried to rush him back because he wanted to see what he could do.

"He played the last five games of last season, but he wasn't right. He didn't get offered a new contract.

"James Faulkner, who joined us in the summer from Wycombe told us about him.

"He's an exciting, quick winger.

"If he does well, though, we probably won't be able to keep him.

"But hopefully he can play his football and that will benefit us. It's also a platform for him.

"We are chuffed to bits to get hold of him."

Meanwhile, Nathan Meade and Morgan Williams are set to make their Kidlington debuts when they travel to Hungerford Town in the Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division.

Manager Paul Lee snapped them up, as he will be without striker Mark Baker (hamstring injury), and Lee Bolton, Emmett McGovern and Adrian Jack (all unavailable) for the Hungerford game and the Bank Holiday Monday's home clash with basement boys AFC Wallingford.

Williams is no stranger to Kidlington having played at Yarnton Road last season when he impressed with his pace and agility.

He and Meade, a left-sided player, trained with Southern League outfit Abingdon United in pre-season and played against Kidlington in a recent friendly.

He was previously with Northampton Town and Oxford United.

Lee added: "I'm delighted by these signings.

"I am sure these young lads will prove to be tremendous assets."
