Oxford City City leapt of the bottom of the table with a stunning victory over former Football League side Stockport County at Marsh Lane on Saturday, writes Matthew Bruce..

And they achieved this great result despite falling behind to an own goal in the first minute.

Tom Winters equalised before the break and City pulled away in a one-sided second half, Mike Symons, Darren Pond and Kayden Jackson each finding the net.

City had to recover from a nightmare start after finding themselves a goal down within a minute of the kick-off.

Iain Howard broke down the left-hand side and City failed to deal with the resulting cross.

City defender Paul Stonehouse’s attempted clearance came back off Adam Learoyd and trickled into the net.

But the home side responded quickly and levelled when a corner was cleared as far as Winters, whose weak right-footed effort bobbled into the corner.

Both sides continued to create chances and City had goalkeeper Victor Francoz to thank for maintaining parity when he made an excellent reaction save to deny James Tunnicliffe shortly before the break.

City turned up the heat in the second half, taking the lead when Symons broke up the right-hand side before deftly lobbing goalkeeper Ryan Jones.

And matters got worse for the visitors shortly after when captain Keiran Charnock was sent off after hauling down the dangerous Pond as he raced through on goal.

Symons was denied a second goal from the resulting free-kick, his volleyed effort being ruled out by the offside flag.

But City were by now comfortably in control and they extended their lead when Pond exploited the extra space afforded in the Stockport area to head in Chris Palmer's inch-perfect cross.

And Kayden Jackson put the seal on City's impressive win, coolly rounding the County goalkeeper to score his second goal for the club on his home debut.

Tensions were running high among the visiting fans, two of whom chose to vent their frustrations by staging a pitch invasion .

But this did little to dampen City’s celebrations as they moved four places up the table to 18th.
