UPPER THAMES VALLEY LEAGUE

STRUGGLING Division 1 side OUP Wanderers caused a major upset when they felled top-flight Oxford Yellows 3-2 in the quarter-finals of the Hedley Toms/ Michael Brown Trophy, writes TIM SIRET.

Wanderers owed their succeess to strong defensive display led by Alex Garth and Kane Damien Dean, while keeper Chris Douglas made a stunning save from Yellows’ Mark Scanes late on to secure a semi-final place against AFC Hinksey this Sunday.

Steve Doyle, substitute Sean Geaney and Ollie Burrow’s penalty provided OUP’s goals, while Craig Hanlon and Rocky Whiting replied for Yellows.

In the Premier Division, a Luke Cuff double helped Kings Arms Wheatley to come from behind and win 3-1 at Dorchester United.

Francis Mapplethorpe was the other Wheatley scorer, David Murphy replying.

Standlake Garage secured their first Division 1 win of the season – 5-3 at fellow strugglers Sutton Revolution.

Chris Bennell scored twice for Standlake, whose other goals came from Darren Light, debutant Karl Dickinson and Gary Atkinson.

Sutton replied through Johnny James, Chris Saham (penalty) and Jason Fisher.

Kidlington Royals lost 5-1 at Donnington, who scored first through Aaron Bartlett.

Royals hit back quickly through Lewis Coyle, but Donnington raced away with goals from Aaron Williams (2), Craig Gilboy and a first of the season from Tyron Willett (penalty).
