OFA Sam Waters Cup

Holders Oxford Yellows’ saw their hopes of making four finals in a row end with a 2-0 loss to UTV League rivals AFC Hinksey, writes Tim Siret.

Yellows, who won the trophy last season after losing the previous two finals, could not match their revved up opponents.

Hinksey won despite missing a first-half penalty.

Jelroy Constant was hauled down in the box, but Anaclet Odhiambo’s spot-kick was well saved by Yellows keeper Ryan Davies.

In the second half, Hinksey keeper Karl Adams had to save well twice from Ryan Brooks.

Hinksey took the lead when following a move involving man-of-the-match Kieron Davies, Toby Webster head home powerfully from a corner.

Yellow skipper Rocky Whiting then saw his 25-yard free-kick smash against an upright with Davies beaten.

With centre backs Stevie Haines and Webster in dominant form, Hinksey resisted Yellows’ pressure.

They sealed the result in the 79th minute when Haines tapped in after good work from Odhiambo.

Hinksey will now play Highfield Social Club in the final at Oxford City FC on Sunday, April 3 (1pm).

The Bicester outfit eased to a 5-1 win over Rover Cowley in the other semi-final.
