OXFORDSHIRE are in a strong position at the halfway stage of their NCCA Championship final against Suffolk.

The Western Division 1 winners ended day two with a second-innings lead of 150 at Tring CC, closing on 115/2.

Oxon earlier bowled out Suffolk for 213, with Gareth Andrew taking 3/56 and Robbie Shurmer, Max Mannering and Oliver Currill adding two wickets each.

The Eastern Division 1 winners began the day 57/2, but the former Hampshire all-rounder struck once and Currill twice as they fell to 65/5.

Joe Gatting and Josh Cantrell steadied the ship, the latter on his way to top-scoring with 49, and Suffolk’s lower order frustrated Oxon.

They added 89 for the final three wickets, but still trailed by 35.

Harrison Smith (33) and Oli Ebsworth-Burland (38) put on 74 for the first wicket of Oxon’s second innings, while Marcus Campopiano (31*) appears in good nick alongside Olly Clarke (5*).

It came after Oxon were bowled out for 248 on day one, having been put into bat.
