MP SPORTS CHERWELL LEAGUE

Division 1

SUPER Shipton-under-Wychwood needed only 34.3 overs to thrash Leighton Buzzard Town and clinch the MP Sports Cherwell League title.

Their crushing win coupled with morning leaders Oxford Downs’ shock defeat to Oxford 2nd meant Shipton, whose second and third teams are also promoted, were champions for the second time, their other success coming in 2002.

They will be promoted to the Home Counties Premier League’s Division 2 Weat unless their ground fails to meet the grade or the club’s members vote against the move.

Young all-rounder George Seacole was their hero at the weekend, taking 5-22 as Leighton slumped to 71 all out inside 24 overs.

Seacole took three wickets from four balls in his fourth over to rip the heart out of Buzzard’s top order.

Three of his victims were bowled and the other two would have suffered the same fate had they not put their pads in the way.

Only Chris Thompson held up Shipton for long, stroking five boundaries in his 25.

Shipton’s most prolific bowler, left-arm spinner Shaun Miller, was only required to deliver eight balls, such was his side’s dominance.

Joe Barrett fell to the second ball of the visitors’ reply, but Andrew Hemming and Simon Hole then added 61 for the second wicket to put the result beyond doubt.
