Jaydeep Bhatti took 7-54 to give Thame Town a crushing 89-run victory at arch rivals Aston Rowant – and their first win of the season in Division 2 West.

The Indian left-arm spinner, who posted a club record 64 wickets last season, sent Rowant crashing to 156 all out in reply to Thame’s 245 after they had been put in to bat.

Openers James Neilsen and Michael Higgs put on 82 for Thame’s first wicket, before the former’s dismissal sparked a quick flurry of wickets to leave the visitors 110-5.

Higgs was among those to fall for 53, before veteran Manoj Parmar joined Patrik Patel to put on 93 for the sixth wicket.

The dismissal of Parmar and Pratik, who batted superbly for his 79, with Ed Barnett sandwiched in between, saw Thame reduced to 206-8.

But the tail wagged to take the visitors to a challenging total, 16-year-old spinner Chris Leaney returning 4-35.

Rowant were soon in big trouble at 25-4 as Bhatti and Thame skipper Sam Lachlan took two wickets apiece.

Archie Leon (37) and Wesley Morrick (33) attempted to repair the damage, but when they fell in quick succession to Bhatti, Rowant were staring down the barrel at 101-6.

Thad Cooper (42no) remained defiant as Bhatti took three more wickets, before Leaney’s run out sealed Thame’s victory.
