Moves to revamp the Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup have proved a success with the entry for the 2011 competition almost doubling last year’s number.

Just 15 of the Oxfordshire Cricket Board’s 85 affiliated clubs lined up in the knockout tournament last year.

But with this year’s competition seeing all those who entered in 2010 automatically going into the draw together with any other Focus clubs – those that operate within the England and Wales Cricket Board guidelines – the entry has rocketed to 29.

Last season, the Oxfordshire Cricket Association didn’t have a single representative, but this year there will be seven clubs flying the flag for the league.

In a move to make the cup more attractive to all clubs, the OCB have introduced four regional competitions.

District honours will be competed for in Cherwell, West, South and Vale, with the City clubs being placed appropriately.

The four area champions will go through to the quarter-finals where they will be joined by last year’s semi-finalists, holders Banbury, Oxford, Thame Town and Aston Rowant, who are seeded into the last eight.

First-round ties on Tuesday, June 7 include potential giant-killings with Minster Lovell at home to Oxford Downs, and Chadlington entertaining Great & Little Tew.

The final will be staged at Great & Little Tew on Sunday, September 4.
