CUMNOR are through to the first national round of the 2019 Cricketer Village Cup after a seven-wicket victory at Tiddington in the Oxfordshire final.

The hosts elected to bat first, but struggled to set a competitive total in the face of some excellent Cumnor bowling and fielding.

They lost Max Smith and Will Cooper cheaply, before a 54-run partnership for the third wicket between Will Goodman (45) and Nick Pykett (35) briefly got their innings back on track.

But aside from Archie Davis (34), no other Tiddington batsman reached double figures as Sam Cross (4-30) and Alex Davies (4-33) produced fine displays with the ball to leave Cumnor needing 158 for victory.

Cumnor lost James Lee early in their reply, but, led by Cross, who hit an unbeaten 53 and opener Michael Race (48), Cumnor eased to their target with more than nine overs remaining and seven wickets in hand.

They will now travel to Berkshire champions Binfield in the first national round on June 23, four victories from the final at Lord’s.
