OXFORD MCCU are fighting to save a draw against Hampshire in The Parks.

Playing in their only first-class home game, the students were dismissed for 114 in 67 overs today.

Hampshire were then restricted to 66-4 in their second innings, but have a daunting 430-run lead.

Having ended the first of the three-day match on 448-8, thanks to centuries from England’s James Vince (139) and Sam Northeast (118), Toby Pettman taking 4-82, the County Championship side declared on 478-9.

However, no Oxford batsman scored more than 30 in reply as they were taught a lesson by Hampshire.

Liam Dawson took 4-11 from 14 overs, including nine maidens, as only Tom Heathfield (29), James

Seward (28) and Matt Taylor (15) reached double figures.

The students dug in and took four quick wickets at the end of the second day, right-arm seamer Will Robertson claiming 3-32.

One of his victims included Rilee Rossouw, who was dismissed off the fifth delivery of an expensive 12th over – the South African had hit three fours and a six off the previous four balls.

It was a promising end to the day, but the students have a lot of work to do tomorrow.
