OXFORDSHIRE’S Ella Lovibond and Ella Turner have been selected for the School Games National Finals.

The duo will compete for the Midlands team at Loughborough University from August 31 to September 3.

Ella Turner, 16, who attends Matthew Arnold School, Oxford, impressed to finish fifth in the 300m at last month’s ESAA English Schools’ Championships.

The Oxford City AC athlete also won the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire County Championships in May.

Oxfordshire County Schools champion and Radley AC member Lovibond, 15, is a pupil at St Helen and St Katharine School, Abingdon.

She has a personal best of 52.74m in the hammer, which helped her come fifth at the English Schools’ Championships.

The national finals will see 1,600 athletes compete across 12 sports over four days.

Lovibond and Turner will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Olympians Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Adam Gemili, who both competed at the event.

The youngsters will live in a dedicated athletes’ village and take part in an opening ceremony.

Lovibond said: “Watching the Olympics always inspires me to excel because the athletes competing are at such a high standard.”
