GEMMA Bridge’s place in the Great Britain squad for this summer’s IAAF World Athletics Championships in London has been confirmed.

The Oxford City AC member secured her spot last month when winning the 20km racewalk trials in Leeds.

But her place in the 78-strong team for the event on August 4-13 was not officially confirmed by the governing body until yesterday.

Bridge, a former middle and long-distance runner, will represent Great Britain for the first time at a major championships, having only made her competitive racewalk debut back in January.
