OXFORD driver Jason Plato is pinning his hopes of a third Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship on a successful day at Silverstone tomorrow.

Plato is in third place, 32 points behind leader, Honda’s Gordon Shedden, with just six races to go – three at Silverstone and three more at Brands Hatch on October 21.

Seven drivers are still in with a chance of securing the 2012 title, with the pace being set by Shedden and his Honda colleague Matt Neal.

At Silverstone, there are 67 points up for grabs, so the on-track action will be fierce.

With Silverstone’s high-speed National Circuit unlikely to suit the Honda duo of Shedden and Neal, Plato will be in for a chance to steal the show at what he regards as his home circuit.

Plato, of MG KX Momentum Racing, said: “This weekend’s penultimate event at Silverstone is absolutely crucial for my championship aspirations. “We simply must take a sizeable chunk out of the Honda drivers’ points advantage if we want to be in a position to take the crown at the final meeting. “I am determined to make my home event a success.

“We have a great opportunity ahead of us, and by God will we be giving 100 per cent in every single area. No stone will be left unturned, I want my third title, simples…”

The other drivers involved in the title race are Andrew Jordan (Pirtek Racing), Robert Collard, Tom Onslow-Cole (both eBay Motors), and Mat Jackson (Redstone Racing).

Standings (top ten): 1 G Shedden 336pts, 2 M Neal 333, 3 J Plato 304, 4 A Jordan 287, 5 R Collard 247, 6 T Onslow-Cole 228, 7 M Jackson 223, 8 D Newsham 151, 9 F Wrathall 138, 10 N Foster 128.
