DAVID Gain was Oxfordshire’s star in the UK Counties Athletic Union (CAU) Track and Field Championships at Bedford.

The 22-year-old Oxford City sprinter finished fourth in the 200m final, clocking a club record and personal best 21.39secs.

This came just 20 minutes after he had set a pb of 21.43 in his semi-final.

Radley’s Ashley Johnson finished last in the 110m hurdles final after falling, but had recorded 14.93 to progress from his semi.

Banbury’s Kyle Ennis was knocked out in the 200m semi-finals after clocking 22.08.

Abingdon Amblers duo Noel Blatchford and Judy Howard finished ninth and tenth in the 3,000m race walk, recording 18.05.36 and 18.20.36 respectively.

Oxford University ’s Isaiah Adekanmbi was injured in his 100m heat.

  • STEVE Naylor, from Woodstock, finished sixth in the 5,000m B race at the BMC Grand Prix Final in Bedford.

Naylor, who missed the Mota-Vation Series race at Charlton, clocked 14mins 47.34secs, which was nine seconds off his personal best.

  • ABINGDON Ambler Les Newell ran two personal bests in two days at the age of 37.

Newell showed he is in the form of his life by clocking 2mins 1.76secs to finish fourth in his race at the Watford Graded Open.

The following day saw Newell win Abingdon’s club championship 1,500m race in 4.07.00 for a second pb.
