Oxford's Hannah England says a strong finish to the season will not make up for her Olympic agony.

But the 25-year-old athlete is determined to have fun, starting with the 1,500m at tomorrow’s Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix.

World silver medallist England was devastated to miss out on the 1,500m final at London 2012, where she was still dealing with the affects of an Achilles injury.

However, having run a personal best over 800m on her first race since then, the Oxford City athlete is positive.

“Despite a disrupted build up this summer, my training was still geared towards peaking for the Olympics,” said England. “But judging by the PB I ran this week, hopefully I’ve still got some good races in my legs.

“This season was all about the Olympics and racing well in the next fews weeks won’t make up for the disappointment of not making the final.

“But hopefully it will be fun nonetheless and every race is an experience to learn more about myself for the future.”

England, whose 1,500m best is 4mins 1.89secs, had hoped to break the four-minute barrier this season.

She said: “I think my training this winter would have set me up to go under four minutes for the 1,500m, whether this is possible with the time I missed through injury I don’t know.”

After Birmingham, England still plans to race up to five more times in 2012.

She said: “I am hoping to run in Zurich on August 30 and then another 800m and 1500m on the track before finishing with two road miles in Newcastle on September 15 and New York on September 22.”

Lawrence Clarke, from Christmas Common, races in the 110m hurdles, while Radley’s Carolyn Plateau goes in the On Camp With Kelly 800m.
