Chris Wilder has urged Oxford United to preserve their “precious” home record as Plymouth Argyle visit this afternoon.

The U’s sit top of npower League Two on goal difference following Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Southend United at the Kassam Stadium .

In their other competitive home game this season, United beat League One side Bourne-mouth on penalties in the Capital One Cup.

A strong home record will be key to any promotion challenge and Wilder wants to continue building on the good start today.

The United boss said: “It’s a noisy place – it’s intimidating without going over the top and this is how we have to be all season. “Shrewsbury went up last season on the back of an unbelievable home record and we have to make sure this becomes the bedrock of our season and gives a platform to progress. “The home record is precious to us and we have to make sure it’s something to be proud of.”

United are likely to be unchanged, with James Constable again set to be on the bench as a precaution against a slight groin injury.

Tom Craddock, who scored both goals against Southend, may also have to make do with a place on the bench as he is eased back gradually following injuries last season.

While United will go into the game buoyant, Plymouth are yet to catch light in the league.

A 2-0 home defeat against Aldershot last weekend was followed up by a backs-to-the-wall goalless draw at Dagenham on Tuesday.

Wilder knows his opposite number, Carl Fletcher, will be desperate for a first win.

He said: “It’s always the same when you’re looking for your first win.

“The longer it goes without one the more anxious people get, but I want to make sure they are waiting another week.”
