BANBURY Under 13s claimed the Lady Taverners Twenty20 National title after defeating Albebury (Shropshire) by nine wickets at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes.

Albebury got off to a flying start as their openers raced to 40-0 off the first five overs.

But Banbury hit back, Emily Ong taking 4-1 as their opponents crashed to 66 all out.

Wicket-keeper Sophie Mitch-elmore starred in Banbury’s fine display in the field.

Ong (35no) then shone in an opening partnership with Ellie Noble as Banbury cruised to 67-1 with eight overs to spare.

Banbury captain Charlotte Boland said: “Well done to the team. Everyone played their part and we could not have won without the whole team.”

Freeland narrowly missed out on making it an Oxfordshire double in their under 15 final against Bells Yew Green CC (Sussex), who set a competitive 117 to win.

The west Oxfordshire club, champions in 2011, fell just short on 108.

Oxford fell to 55 all out as Una Paramjothy and Sue Day bagged three wickets apiece.

But hosts Lutterworth eased to 56-1 and victory.
