Alex Fraser will have the image of Samantha Murray holding her London 2012 Olympics silver medal aloft as he prepares for the British trials in December.

The 19-year-old Oxford University star was at Greenwich Park as a Games Maker to see the Team GB star claim silver – and the experience was key in helping him set his goals for next season.

Qualification for European competitions is the next logical step for the Oxford biochemistry student, and a strong showing at the trials in Bath this winter is what Fraser has set his heart on.

While he is fully aware that he needs to work on his weak event, the shooting, he is ready for the intense period of training waiting for him.

“It was incredible to be there for Murray’s medal win,” said Fraser.

“To see so many people out in force watching our sport was really incredible, I’m definitely not used to seeing that.

“I’m only three years younger than Samantha, so it shows you what you can achieve at a young age. I just keep thinking that will be when Rio de Janeiro (2016) comes around, so it’s really great motivation.”

He added: “I do 20 hours a week of training and try to mix it between all the events.

“All it will take is a bit of extra work on that discipline. I know I can do it and I have plenty of time to get it right – it’s just crucial I make some progress this winter.
