TICKETS for Oxford United ’s derby with Swindon Town have sold quickly since going on sale this week.
The two rivals meet in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday, September 5.
Supporters queued at the ground when the tickets became available for the all-ticket game on Tuesday morning and almost 3,000 had been sold by yesterday.
Swindon are expected to sell out their allocation of just under 2,000 and the U’s are hoping for an attendance approaching 10,000.
Despite the bumper gate the club are not expecting a cash injection, with policing and stewarding costs predicted to be around £40,000.
But United will make money on next week’s trip to Leeds United in the Capital One Cup.
Several hundred away tickets have been sold for the second round match at Elland Road and chairman Ian Lenagan is hoping the shared gate will net the club up to £50,000.
