KIDLINGTON’S success in the Steve Dixon Memorial Cup final had added significance as it saw the club capture their first trophy since rejoining the Oxfordshire Cricket Association.

The Stratfield Brake outfit have undergone many changes since they were thrown out of the Cherwell League in 2009 for a series of misdemeanours.

Having regrouped and gone back into the OCA in 2010, Kidlington finished third in Division 7 last year, being promoted following a league reorganisation.

Now they have topped that by lifting the Steve Dixon Memorial Cup with an emphatic seven-wicket win over Division 5 side Uffington in the final at Fringford.

And, as runaway leaders of Division 6, they are set to complete a double when they visit bottom club Westbury 2nd on Saturday. Skipper Richard Walker said: “It’s great for the club with what has happened in the past to get a good young team, and to progress forward and get the club back to where they should be.”

Man-of-the-match Jimmy Ewers led the way for Kidlington in the final with an unbeaten 53, and Tom Bozman, Dan Farrant and Jack Desmond have been other key players this season.

Walker added: “All the bowlers bowled well and kept it tight and we fielded really well and kept hold of the catches.

“We knocked them off in the 25th over, so it was a pretty convincing performance.”
