OXFORD United are set to sign Alex Evans on non-contract terms, subject to international clearance.

The 19-year old centre-half, who was released by Cardiff City this summer, has been training with United throughout pre-season.

Evans will act as cover for Harry Worley, whose recovery from ankle surgery is taking longer than expected.

U's boss Chris Wilder said: "The medical advice we have received on Harry is that he is still a couple of weeks away from being available.

"He has been out for a long time so there is no point rushing the final stages of his recovery, so Alex will come in and help us out and we will take it from there."

Evans said: "I've really enjoyed my time here, it's a great set-up and the lads have made me feel very welcome.

"Now I have a little longer to show what I can do and hopefully help the team and impress."

It is unclear at this stage whether the paperwork will be completed in time for the Welshman to be in the United squad to face Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup tomorrow (7.45pm).
