Banbury Star came on top in the annual three-way contest against Oxonian and Oxford City to win the Leiden Plaque.

The competition, which dates back to 1951, took place over 25 miles on the A420 and is decided by the best team of four on handicap times Oxonian beat City intosecond spot.

Huge puddles on the road after heavy rain, could not prevent several riders recording personal best times Oxonian David Jones took a huge 3mins 30secs of his pb with a 1.00.30, while clubmate Malcolm Rose bettered his best by 43secs with 55.04.

Oxford City riders Mike Johnston, Tim Aust and Rob West also achieved pbs.

Emma McDurmott (Oxonian), the only lady rider to compete, recorded 1.04.02. The men’s race was won by Chris Goodfellow (Oxford city) who finished 1.34 in front of Rose. Oxonian Dan Blackburn was third in 55.30.
