Carole Galletly and Caroline Campion suffered semi-final heartbreak in the Women’s National Championships at Leamington.

The Banbury Central duo went down by three shots to Kathryn Rednall and Margaret Insley, from Felixstowe and Suffolk BC.

Galletly and Campion won their opening round 23-11 against their Derbyshire opponents, before beating a team from Bedfordshire 25-19.

However, they fell just short in the last four.

Katherine Hawes and Donna Knight (Oxford City and County) reached the last-16 stage in the same event before losing out to the eventual winners Sue Alexander and Ellen Faulkner. Oxon’s Under 31 Amy Rose squad produced a fantastic performance before going out in the quarter-finals to a strong Surrey side.

The rink of Clare Soden, Jodie Flitter, Tara Alder and Helen Campion defeated Kelly Jenkin’s rink 21-15.

But a 21-12 defeat for the Oxfordshire foursome of Jazz Alder, Amy Stone, Emma Gilkes and Charlotte Jacob at the hands of Debbie Sarratt’s rink meant the team fell just short.

Margaret Bullock and Daphne Jacob (Shiplake) lost in the first round of the 55 and overs pairs, going down 28-10 to their Devon opponents.
