Jack Briggs and Johnny Morris both grabbed a hat-trick of tries as Oxford Cavaliers finished top of the West of England Division with a 56-28 win against Somerset Vikings.

The result means Oxford will now host the winners of theSomerset Vikings v Bristol Sonics play-off in the grand final on Sunday, August 19.

Cavliers went ahead after four minutes with a converted Ruari Lynch try, only for the visitors to level through Zac France. Morris and Briggs then crossed the line, with Shane Turner converting both, before Somerset scored their second try. After the break, Ben Sydenham went over between the posts, and Briggs grabbed his second as Cavaliers raced into a 30-12 advantage.

Then a try from Matt Patching, converted by Carlo Colucci, kept Warriors in touch.

But three tries in a ten-minute spell midway through the half, from Morris (2) for his treble and Matt Fiander, two of which were converted, saw Oxford stretch their advantage to 46-20.

Two unconverted tries from Warriors cut the margin to 46-28 with ten minutes left.

But two further scores from Briggs – his 16th try of the season – and Matt Collings saw Cavaliers ease home.
