Match fishing

ROACH dominated the fourth round of the Oxford Super League , fished by 45 anglers on the Medley stretch of the Thames.

The river had dropped 18 inches from the previous week and cleared a lot, but still had a decent flow.

Lee Garner (Shakespeare) made the most of a free peg below him near the bottom end of the stretch to take an all-roach bag of exactly 16lb on stick float and maggot Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths’ Steve Townsend drew the peg outside the Perch pub and caught roach on pole and caster for a second-placed 14.8.0, while Jason Robbins (Shakespeare) was an ounce behind with the top bream weight on feeder and worm.

Teams on day: 1 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Blue 35pts, 2 Turners 33.

League: 1 Shakespeare 98pts, 2 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Red 95.

North Oxford’s Pixie Shield match was transferred from Godstow to the Oxford Canal at Frenchay Road due to road closures that meant there was no access to the car park.

Karl Beauchamp caught three tench and a quality perch on the chop for a winning weight of 10.2.0.

Bread maestro Ian Fisher captured 6.11.0 of skimmers for second spot, followed by John Coleman with 4.0.0 of roach and skimmers on red maggot.

Littlemore AS took on Marston FTB for the Jim Henwood Shield on the Thames at Donnington where 23 produced a total weight of 244.11.0.

Pete Clarke made the most of a good draw to tempt several nice bream on feeder with groundbait and worm, plus a net of roach on the pole with hemp and tares for 30.0.0.

Mark Shepherd was on the peg below, catching six bream, plus a few bits, for 26.7.0, while Paul Brant was third with five bream on groundbait feeder with worm.

Littlemore won the match with 152.15.0 to Marston’s 91.12.0.

Beehive AC held their FA & UEFA Cup semi-finals at Stable Lake where lots of carp seemed more intent on basking in the sun than feeding.

A few did oblige, giving Richard Mott top spot with 113.0.0 to pole and paste.

Kevin Jeacock had 97.0.0 to pole and meat, and third was Bob Alder with 88lb on the same tactics. More than 750lb were caught by the 14 fishing.
