EMILY Nisbet, from Stanford in the Vale, bounced back from a disqualification to reach her second final in the British Gas National Age Group Championships held in Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

In the heats of the 200m individual medley, the 12-year-old from City of Oxford, recorded 2mins 32.06secs – her personal best by a 3.5 secs – to qualify seventh fastest for the final. Sadly, she was disqualified for a technical infringement in the final.

However, Nisbet soon put that disappointment behind her to qualify for the 200m freestyle final, despite being ranked 28th of the 32 national qualifiers.

Her personal best time of 2.15.23 made her ninth fastest for the final, where she matched her new pb to come tenth.

Five Abingdon Vale swimmers have been placed in the top 20 of their age groups in Britain following the championships.

Alex Murphy, Michael Esnouf, Caitlin Wheatley, Harry James and Niall O’Leary) all reached the semi-finals of their events.

James did so in the 100m breaststroke, where he reached the final, and in the 200m breaststroke. Esnouf and Murphy competed in the 100m breaststroke, while O’Leary and Wheatley shone in the 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly respectively.
