OXFORDSHIRE’S men finished runners-up in Group 7A in the AEGON Summer County Cup at Beckenham.

They sandwiched 9-0 wins over Shropshire and Isle of Man around a 7-2 defeat by Northumberland, who topped the section.

Oxfordshire’s women lost all three of their matches to finish bottom of Group 6B at East Dorset, Poole.

They were beaten 8-1 by Bedfordshire, 9-0 by Lincolnshire and 7-2 by Cumbria.

  • YOUNGSTERS are invited to enter the Oxfordshire Wilson Junior County Closed Championships.

The tournament is for all players who are born or reside in Oxfordshire.

There are categories for players aged eight and under and nine and under at White Horse Abingdon on August 25 and 26.

For junior players aged 12 and under to 18 and under, there are boys and girls singles events as well as doubles and mixed at North Oxford from Monday August 27 to Saturday September 1.

Entries can be made online via the LTA website tournament code OXF501. The closing date is August 6.

  • THE Wychwoods Tennis Club are holding an open morning tomorrow to celebrate the Olympics at their courts in Shipton-under-Wychwood.

The three synthenic turf courts at the recreation ground alongside the New Beaconsfield Hall, in Station Road, will be open from 11am to 1pm for people to try out the sport, with coach Giles Henderson offering advice.
