Oxford City ace Hannah England says she can’t wait to sample the atmosphere in the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.

The 25-year-old begins her 1,500m campaign on August 6 in front of 80,000 people, which will be a rather different experience to her last race.

England got some vital race practice after her Achilles injury in the relatively low key British Milers’ Club Solihull Grand Prix, having made her return in the Diamond League meeting at Crystal Palace.

“It’s only really footballers who get screamed and yelled at, so hopefully we can enjoy a bit of that, even if it’s just for a week,” said England.

“My performance at Crystal Palace was nearly there. I haven’t raced in six weeks as I’ve been injured.

“I thought my performance was alright, it wasn’t as good as I’d liked, but it was good to go through the warming up process and to be stood on the start line competing.

“The home crowd were good as well, which was to know that the British public were behind us, despite all the rain, and came and watched it all.

“The fact that that crowd is going to be quadrupled does make me excited. It does have the potential to make you nervous, but I think it’s just got to be exciting.”

England clocked 4mins 14secs at Crystal Palace and 4.10 in Solihull, while her personal best is 4.01.89.

But she believes she will be back to her best for London 2012.

“Before the Games, everything is geared towards maximising performance,” she said.

“So you take your other competitions with a pinch of salt because you know what the end goal is.

“We’ve got competitions afterwards that we can totally relax in and have fun in. I quite like it.

“Before the Games, you sort of back the general volume of your training, but keep the intense important track sessions in.

“It’s the fun bit really – they’re more fun than the long slow run, or the winter work, to be honest.

“A little bit of specific training, making the right choices and being fit and fresh enough come the Games.”
