JACK Briggs scored a hat-trick of tries as Oxford Cavaliers completed the double over local rivals Swindon St George with a 50-32 comeback victory in their West of England derby at Oxford RFC.
Having won 40-24 in Wiltshire last month, Cavaliers, who have already secured their play-off slot, proved too good for the visitors as they charged back to the top.
Matt Fiander and Johhny Morris each bagged a try double, while Chris Stables and Tevita Vaikona got their other tries.
Adam White (3), Shane Turner (2), Chris Stables and Chris Fehr kicked the conversions for Cavaliers.
Swindon’s try-scorers were James Slatter, Carl Baker, Jo Lauvanua, Tomtom Tura-gabeci, Charlie Cox and Kim Vuadreu.
Slatter kicked four conversions.
Victory in their final game against Gloucestershire Warriors on Saturday, August 4 (2.30ko) should see Cavaliers take the title.
Cavaliers’ chairman and captain John Connaughton said: “We have probably secured our place in the play-offs now. “But we want to finish the season strongly at home to Gloucestershire Warriors in our final game and ensure we finish top.”
