VIKINGS are just half a point behind Group A leaders Didcot Conservative Club at the halfway stage of the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford Summer League, writes PETE EWINS.
They closed the gap after a 3-3 draw at Democrats Club where Vikings’ Mike Jones pipped Bob Parsons 2,940-2,910.
Democrats’ John Patey made it 1-1 by beating Sean Stratford 7,320-3,420.
In-form Lewis Stratford saw off Democrats’ Eddie Tebby 6,370-2,800, but Patey (9,460) and Parsons made it 3-2 to the hosts.
Stratford scored 9,840 to level it at 3-3 with a win over Tebby (3,330).
Masons won 4-2 at home to Comrades Club, with victories by Martyn Wood (5,580 and 3,230) and Mick Murphy (7,340 and 3,310).
Simon Ellam won Comrades’ points by scoring 4,550 and 12,240 over Alan Lowe.
In Group B, Marlborough Club took advantage of leaders Berinsfield A’s free week by winning 4-2 at Gladiators Club.
The match stood at 2-2 after wins by Dave Jarman (2,850 and 3,000) for the hosts, and Pete Rose (3,910) and Chris Iagoe (3,020), for the visitors Rose and Iagoe (3,170) took the next two legs for a 4-2 victory.
