Oxford's Jordan Flynn will be one of the first two people to spar in the London 2012 boxing ring.

The 16-year-old, from Cowley, will take part in the official rehearsal at ExCel London on Thursday.

Flynn and Billy Beer, his teammate from Repton Boxing Club, will have their names up in lights as organisers test the facility for the Olympic bouts.

“They will be the very first boxers to use the ring,” said Flynn’s coach, Calvin Wing.

“It is a great honour for them.”

Flynn and five other Repton boys were already given the task of carrying the competitors’ flags into the ring.

And organisers contacted the East London club to find two young boxers for the sparring.

When the action starts on Saturday, Flynn and his teammates will get a superb view of the action.

Flynn began boxing with Berinsfield before joining Repton.

“He hopes to turn professional by 18,” said his mum, Judith. “He lives, eats and sleeps boxing.”
