Glenn Carlton’s five-wicket haul set Aston Rowant on the way to a four-wicket win at home to bottom club Farnham Royal in Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West.

Carlton took 5-51 off 17 overs as Farnham were bowled out for 177 after electing to bat first, with tailender Arshad Zashan top-scoring with 42.

Skipper Wesley Morrick and Nick Ferraby provided good support with two wickets apiece.

Openers Chris Watling (47) and Tim Morgan (38) then shared a first-wicket stand of 96 to provide Rowant with the foundation for victory.

But when they were were parted it triggered a mini collapse with five wickets going down for 22 runs.

However, Ferraby and Morrick steadied the ship, before the former was out for 27.

But Morrick, accompanied by Adam Muttitt, saw Rowant home with an unbeaten 36.

Rowant remain third, but they have now reduced the gap at the top to leaders Dinton – who lost at Harefield – to 13 points.
