UNLUCKY is a fair word to describe Shipton-under-Wychwood, who find themselves in the relegation zone at the halfway point of the season.

That is certainly the view of captain Simon Hole and echoed by the analysis of Shipton’s experienced spinner Shaun Miller.

“We have had three matches abandoned,” said Hole. “It has not been good “To have only lost one game and be second from bottom is not a true reflection of well we have played.

“These things happen and we have just got to win some more games to climb the table.

“We are not the second worst side in the league by a long way.”

Miller produced a version of the Division 2 West table excluding rained-off fixtures and calculated the number of points per completed game each team had achieved.

The result puts Shipton in seventh rather than ninth place.

Miller said: “It does not take a genius to tell who I play for, but as we are situated furthest west in the league and also because of general horrific weather we have lost three games to rain.

“Two teams have lost two (Dinton and Farnham Royal) and the other seven have lost one.

“As Dinton have lost two games to rain, they would seem to be the strongest team at this stage.”

Shipton, who saw last week’s clash at Cove abandoned without a ball being bowled, have named an unchanged side for tomorrow’s trip to Dinton.
