WEATHER interruptions and a benign pitch led to the Varsity Match in the Parks petering out into a dull draw yesterday.

Although the match lasted the full four days, there was never the possiblity of a victory for either side after Oxford University recovered from an early second-innings collapse on Tuesday to bat for all of the final day.

Skipper Ben Williams and Raj Sharma, who steadied the ship on Tuesday night, were still there at lunch yesterday.

By this time the possibility of a Cambridge victory had faded into obscurity.

With a scoring rate of barely two an over, it hardly made for entertaining cricket, but Oxford had avoided the possibility of defeat.

Sharma was bowled by Thomas Probert, then Jonathon Lodwick collected his seventh wicket of the match by removing Williams for 70.

When the match was called off yesterday evening, Oxford had reached 215-5 dec to secure a draw, Owain Jones having scored his second fifty of the game.
