AUNT SALLY: Baker and Adams make pairs semis

They recorded 2-0 wins over Graham Hambridge and Gary Pether (Bullnose Morris A) plus John Allnutt and Nick Chapman (Gladiators) in the first two rounds.

The Cricketers pair had a tougher game in the quarter-final against Gary Coulthard and Willy Waite (Bullnose Morris A).

After winning the opening leg, Adams and Baker set eight.

Coulthard replied with a three and Waite clanged off five dolls to take the leg to three sticks, which the Cricketers pair won with a set of five.

Ken Maunder and Trevor Greenaway (Garsington Sports Club A) will join them in the semi-finals.

In the quarter finals, they saw off Pete Dempsey and Mick Phipps (Three Pigeons) 2-0 with a 9-2, 7-6 scoreline.

They were pushed all the way in the second round by Pete Coates and Lee Thompson (Red Lion Eynsham) with both legs going to three sticks after they were tied 8-8 and 10-10.

In the second leg, the Red Lion pair set ten, with Thompson bagging himself a six.

Maunder replied with a six and Greenaway clanged off the four dolls needed to take it to three sticks again, which they won 5-4 for a 2-0 victory.

Paul Sawyer and Steve Bayliss (Red Lion A Kidlington) made the last four, but they had a titanic struggle against Eddie Lacey and Mick Berry (Red Lion A Eynsham) in the first round.

After winning the opening leg 7-5 – with Bayliss hitting a six – the next leg was tied 6-6, then 5-5 on three sticks and 1-1 on one stick.

So it was back to six sticks, which the Kidlington pair won 8-7.

In the second round, they just got the better of Darren St John and Ady Shepherd (New Club A) 2-1.

With the game nicely poised at one leg each, Sawyer banged in a six in the final leg to give them a total of eight, which proved too many for the New Club boys.

In the quarter-finals, they had a comfortable 2-0 win over Ady Cross and Alan Goodgame (Six Bells C Kidlington) 9-2, 7-6, with Sawyer hitting his second six.

Kevin Giles and Paul Townsend (Three Pigeons), completed the line-up by defeating Roger Goodall and Dick Walsh (Six Bells C Kidlington) 2-0 in a tense quarter-final.

In the lower section pairs, holders Clive Walsh and Barry Mudd (Kidlington Sports Club) crashed out in the quarter-finals to Peter Sellar and Mathew Arnold (Crown Chalgrove) 2-1.

Newcomers Frank Howlett and Paul Sims (Bullnose Morris B) made it through to the semi-finals with a hard-fought 2-1 win against teammates Dale Macer and Eddie Lacey in the last eight.

Richard Butler and Graham Pitts (Kennington Social Club) reached their first semi-final after an epic 2-1 win against teammates Adam Baker and Derek Fitzgerald.

Gareth Williams and Steve Dean (Cricketers A) complete the semi-final line-up after defeating teammates Richard Berry and Steve Jessop 2-1.
