PHIL DeFreitas is promising a fun day when he brings his Lashings World XI to Oxford next week.

DeFreitas will captain the famed former players’ side in two Twenty20 matches at Magdalen College School where he is the cricket professional on Sunday, July 8.

Big names in his team include legendary West Indies batsman Gordon Greenidge and ex-England paceman Devon Malcolm.

Lashings will take on the school’s first XI in the morning and then, after lunch, take on a team of Oxfordshire club players – selected by MCS teacher and former England batsman John Crawley.

DeFreitas said: “It should be fun. Fingers crossed it is going to be a nice day.

“The weather is the thing we are most worried about.”

“We have four or five leavers in the school team, so it will be fantastic for them to leave on a high note.

“Facing the John Crawley XI will probably be the tougher match.

“I will be captaining and playing in both matches.”

Ex-Zimbabwe international Henry Olonga will entertain the crowd on and off the pitch.

Pakistan players Mohammad Akram, Saqlain Mushtaq and Imran Nazir are also named alongside New Zealanders Ian Butler and Lou Vincent plus Aussie Ian Harvey.

Former England seamer John Lever is player-manager and the players will also be hosting tables at lunch.

The day, which will raise funds for Helen and Douglas House, features a barbecue, Pimms tent and tethered hot air balloon rides Among the auction prizes will be a week’s holiday in Barbados and tickets to England v South Africa at Edgbaston.

Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. Contact lashings@mcsoxford.org or telephone 01865 242191.
