NICK Hands was out one run short of his century as Oxford 3rd made 196-9 at Twyford.

Left-arm spinner Bilal Afzal was the pick of the home attack with 4-46.

Shahid Mahmood (38) and Stafford Sansome (37no) gave Twyford hope of beating Oxford and maintaining their lead at the top.

But Richard Beer’s 4-74 restricted them to 154-8 and the visitors earned enough points to supplant their hosts at the summit.

Long Marston’s Pete Toovey took 6-53 to rip through the Sandford St Martin batting line up.

The visitors innings spanned only 24.3 overs as they slumped to only 80 all out.

The result was never in doubt while James Beesley (30no) was at the crease, and Marston reached 84-3 from the first ball of their 19th over.

Abingdon Vale were staring down the barrel at defeat when a mini-monsoon ended their match with Challow & Childrey.

The visitors had made a competitive 171-8, thanks in the main to Vishane Perera, who made 97 before running himself out in kamikaze fashion.

Vale were then reduced to 33-6 before Mike Cook (34no) prolonged the game long enough to earn his side a draw on 65-8 after 32 overs.

Jon Talbot hit 60 and Nathan Brooks helped himself to 57 in Tiddington’s 216 all out at home to strugglers Aston Rowant 2nd.

Chris Eaton took 3-42 from 16 overs for the visitors, who were in soon in trouble against Sam Hollingshead (3-28).

But heavy rain when Rowant reached 90-5 in the 29th over called an early halt to proceedings.
