OXFORD’S Jason Plato will be gunning for his 70th victory when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship resumes at Oulton Park this weekend.

Plato, who heads the championship table, is the most successful driver in BTCC history, having added the 69th win of his career in this season’s opening round at Brands Hatch in early April.

But he hasn’t won since, meaning six races and more than two months without a victory – almost unheard of given his track record.

“Oulton Park can’t come soon enough,” said Plato.

“To say my tail is in the air would be an understatement.

“I am confident that we should have a great race car for Oulton.

“We are going to the circuit with the mindset of winning races.”

l BANBURY’S Michael Meadows will be looking to increase his lead when the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship roars back into action at Oulton Park.

Meadows has been in terrific form in his Redline Racing car this season with four wins.

l CHIPPING Norton’s Fergus Walkinshaw bids to bounce back from a disappointing last round in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup as the series hits the road again at Oulton Park.

The 21-year-old Oxford Brookes University student failed to finish both races at the Hampshire track, which saw him drop from fifth to eighth in the title race.

But with an improvement to his Century Motorsport car, Walkinshaw is hoping to climb back up the table.

He said: “We briefly ran the new differential in testing and the car immediately felt a lot better.”
