BANBURY batsman Eddie Phillips will be out for eight to ten weeks after dislocating his left big toe in a freak accident.

Phillips feared he might lose the toe following the injury in a friendly match on Monday, but had successful surgery to save it.

His brother, Banbury captain Jimmy Phillips, said: “He was just jogging around the boundary while his side were batting and tripped over the rope.

“He managed to land on his toe. It looked horrific.

“Eddie had an operation on Monday. They were saying that he might lose his toe.

“He won’t play for eight to ten weeks, which is a real shame as he got his first Home Counties fifty last week.”

Left-arm spinner Luke Ryan returns in Phillips’s place for tomorrow’s trip to Henley where Oxfordshire drew with Berkshire in a rain-affected clash this week.

Jimmy Phillips, who played in the county match, added: “I think we are using the same pitch. I know what to expect.

“As long as the rain stays away, we are looking forward to it."
