Preben Krabben claimed his third Winter League men's singles title when he beat his Goodlake Arms teammate Kevin Wilkins 2-0 in the final at Rover Cowley SC on Friday.

It was also sweet revenge for Krabben, who had lost to Wilkins in the 2008 final.

A high-class contest began in sensational style when Krabben produced a maximum with his first throw. Then, in the second leg, he hit two 140s to leave 36, which he despatched with 18 and double nine.

The ladies’ singles cup has a new name on it, after Philippa Young, from Village Inn, overcame previous winner Paulette Guy (Nuffield Bar)2-0.

An exciting men’s pairs final went to the Cowley Workers duo of Lyndon Richards and Wayland Honour, who just got the better of Dan Jones and Martin Atherton (Nuffield Lounge).

The ladies’ pairs final between Sam Moore and Caz Chorley (Village Inn) and Sharon Fenn and Nadine Jacob (Catherine Wheel), went to a decider.

All four players missed chances to win the match before Chorley clinched it with a double two.

Defending mixed pairs champions Steve Couling and Gemma Dumper (Three Horseshoes) retained their title, beating the Gladiator Social Club duo of Pete and Shirley Dobson 2-1.

The men’s stadium cup was won by Geordie Grant, Ray Pape, Terry Wood and Tony Allday, of Rose Hill Community Centre, who defeated Goodlake Arms.

The ladies’ Tess Walker Cup was retained by the Nuffield Bar trio of Paulette Guy, Hazel Prowton and Ruth Stockwell.

Red Lion Eynsham, from Section 2, caused an upset by beating Section 1 side Cowley Workers 4-2 in the seven-a-side Cup final.

Workers led 1-0 when Kevin Dickerson beat Tony Buckingham, but Lion hit back to lead 2-1 with wins from Matthew Brain and Paul Martin.

The scores were level at 2-2 after Simon Powell beat Pete Thorp, but the Lions’ captain Darren Hammond and Jason Coates saw them home.

The Ladies’ Seven-a-side saw Premier champions Florence Park Community Centre edge out Section 1 side Vikings Social Club A 4-3, with Angie Godfrey defeating Lisa James in the decider.
