Aston Rowant paid for the lack of a major innings as they suffered a four-wicket defeat away to Dinton in Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West on Saturday.

Asked to bat first, Rowant found themselves in trouble with the early loss of openers Tim Morgan and Chris Watling with just four runs on the board.

There was a temporary respite as Richard Cook and 17-year-old Adam Muttitt added 65 before the former departed for 29.

Thad Cooper joined Muttitt and they moved the totale onto 90 before Muttitt fell for the side’s top score of 31.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals with Rowant failing to deal with the Dinton attack of Alister Gibbins and Shakhil Ahmed and were finally all out for 153 in the 60th over.

Rowant seamers Wes Morrick and Glen Carlton made early inroads into the Dinton reply, reducing them to 32-3.

This later became 71-4 and Gordon Harris removed opener Rob King for 39, the visitors had hopes of victory.

But they could not capitalise on their position as Alan Massey and Mike Sutliff guided Dinton to the brink of victory which was achiebved in the 47th over
