Abingdon Vale 3rd XI captain Ben Lanham is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a nasty injury in his side’s draw with Cumnor 3rd in Division 7 of the Cherwell League.
Lanham put down a tricky chance off Dave Mitty, who top-scored for 73 in the visitors’ 182-7.
But in spilling the catch, the Vale man suffered a possible ruptured tendon to a thumb.
Lanham was forced to fight through the pain barrier to block out with Robin Newman as Abingdon hung on at 163-9 before going to hospital.
His hand is in plaster, where it will remain for another week when doctors are hoping the bruising and swelling will have disappeared to make a more accurate assessment.
