SIMON Watkins took 5-60 and struck an unbeaten 62 to see Oxford Downs to a convincing seven-wicket win at Banbury 2nd.

Only Anish Desai (41) and Steve Beck (63no) made much progress for Banbury, who had to settle for a total of 190-8 from their 53 overs.

Downs lost three quick wickets, but Watkins joined Andrew Buckingham (77no) to take their side to a straightforward victory with four overs to spare.

Great & Little Tew were all over Cumnor for 100 overs, but could not quite dislodge the hosts’ last pair.

Matt Taylor (50), Joe White (44), Lloyd Brock (43) and Curtly Slatter (42) all had the Cumnor fielders chasing leather on a hot day as Tew racked up a useful 233-7.

Joe Shillaker was the pick of the home attack with 3-85.

All-rounder White took 4-32 and Matthew Woods 4-85 to take Tew within one wicket of victory.

But Carl Thompson’s defiant 53 not out and some late resistance helped Cumnor cling on at 170-9.

Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts suffered their third straight defeat, this time at the hands of Buckingham Town.

Tim Rattigan (40) was the sole Nondies batsman to hang around for long as they were bundled out for 137.

Steve Brunning (44) then got Town on the right road, and Jack Parish (46no) finished the job.

Horspath dismissed their opponents cheaply and wasted little time knocking off the required runs for the third week running.

Their latest victims were Leighton Buzzard Town, who could muster only 94 from 37 overs.

Lee Mason took 3-17, while Chris Thompson’s 35 gave the scoreline a modicum of respectability.

Town never looked like producing a shock as Robbie Eason (42no) and Joey Todd (40no) steered the visitors to a ten-wicket win, leaving their hosts pointless.

Paul Strong’s unbeaten 90 and James Sprittles’s useful 33 helped Bletchley Town post 211-7 at Great Brickhill. Garth Davson led the home attack to take 3-42.

Andy Ward hit 49 for Brickhill, but Graham Simpson (4-36) and Wasim Fayyaz (4-52) combined to dismiss them for 139.
