LUKE Carnell was the big winner at Abingdon United’s end-of-season presentation evening.
The defender collected both the players’ player of the year and the award voted for by the club’s supporters.
Skipper Ricky Allaway won the player-of-the-year title, while Curtis Angell was named the squad’s top young player.
Reflecting on his side’s 18th place finish in Evo-Stik Division 1 South & West, manager Richie Bourne praised the players’ attitude in recovering from a long barren run after Christmas which raised fears of relegation before a strong finish.
He said: “It was an up-and-down season for the first-team.
“At the start of 2012 they could hardly score a goal and went on a long run without a win.
“But the players stuck together more than any other side I have ever been involved with.
“This team spirit helped them through and eventually finished with a flourish, which bodes well for next season.”
