Oxford University will host the city’s “biggest sevens tournament for many years” at Iffley Road on Saturday, May 26.

The 12-team charity invitational event will feature international sides such as Wales and Afghanistan, plus Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Organisers the RAF Spitfires will also play, alongside UWIC, Indian’s Rugby Uncle and potentially Leicester Tigers and Saracens.

All proceeds will be donated between Khelo Rugby in India, the RAF ExPOW Association, and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

Sponsored by Spitfire Ale, the tournament will feature music throughout the day and entertainment including a parachute jump and a “fly-past” from the RAF’s finest.

Squadron leader Tim Barlow, director, coach and player for the RAF Spitfires, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for Oxford to experience some of the best sevens players from across the globe compete for a great cause.”

Oxford University general manager Tim Stevens said: “It’ll be the biggest sevens tournament held at Oxford for many years, and we are anticipating a very strong turnout on the day.”

Tickets are on sale from the club office on 01865 432000 and on the day.

They cost £15 for adults, £10 for concessions, £5 for under 12s, and kids under five go free.
