Murray Nicholls bagged a brace as Old Woodstock Town sealed a second-placed finish in Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 West with a 3-1 victory at Headington Amateurs on Saturday.

However, like champions Tytherington, Woodstock cannot go up to the Premier Division as their ground is not up to standard, so third-place Winterbourne are promoted.

The hosts took the lead on 16 minutes when Yannick Nkwanyuo burst past two defenders before firing past Jeff Simmonds.

Luke Cuff was put clear by Shaun Jacob’s fine pass, but dragged his shot wide.

After the break, Woodstock turned up the heat with Gavin Kidd heading home the equaliser on 54 minutes.

Nkwanyuo and Cuff had chances to restore the lead, but were denied by Simmonds.

With 20 minutes left, Headington’s Jay Hill saw his shot from 12 yards hit a post and rebound clear with Simmonds beaten.

Jacob saw a goalbound shot blocked, before Nicholls rifled a 15-yard shot past Harry Jenkins to put Woodstock ahead.

As Headington pushed for an equaliser, Nicholls made it 3-1 with a close-range finish.
