OXFORD City spent a frustrating afternoon in trying to break down a staunch Cambridge City side in their quest to improve their Southern League Premier Division promotion prospects, but were held to a 0-0 draw.
Mike Ford’s men slipped to third place on goal difference after this draw and now trail leaders Brackley by six points with a game in hand.
Cambridge had an early chance, but Craig Hammond shot weakly at City keeper Jason Mooney, who had a quiet game.
For Oxford, Steve Basham was close with two efforts from close in, while visiting keeper Zac Barrett dealt well with Declan Benjamin’s first-half strike.
Im the second half, a skimmed the bar after good work by Andy Ballard.
The hosts pressed hard for the elusive goal, but Cambridge defended well to earn a point that keeps them in a play-off position.
Oxford will be keen to strengthen their position with victory away to struggling Hemel Hempstead Town today.
