Alchester led promotion-chasing Windsor 13-0, but eventually succumbed 26-13 in Southern Counties North.

A penalty and a try late in the first half saw the home side 8 -0 to the good at the interval after pinning Windsor back in their own half for much of the half.

Tom Miles’s penalty put them ahead and then centre Jack Briggs and winger Andy Blacklock created space for replacement second row Matt Dye to sprint over in the corner.

Alchester increased their lead just two minutes into the second half as flanker Tom Isles scooted through, but thenWindsor began to pile on the pressure.

An unconverted try got them on the scoreboard and they camped down in the opposition half.

A second try came on 65 minutes after spending ten minutes inside the Alchester 22.

A tiring home defence let in Windsor for two further tries in the last five minutes.

This was the last game Alchester will play at Marston Ferry Road as next season they will be moving to a new home ground at Fritwell.

Grove’s match at home to Marlborough was played as a friendly because the visitors were unable to field a full squad of registered players.

Grove triumphed 54-14, automatically taking all five points.

Tries came from Harry Carr (3), Ben Nicholl (2), Alex Morgan, Tom Harrington, Guy Nicholl. Dave Maryon kicked four conversions and two penalties.

Wallingford went down 41-17 away to Beaconsfield, whose victory secured the title.
